Abstract: Viñales Valley (Pinar del Rio) is located in the west of Cuba and is one of the most valued natural tourist destinations of the island. Its interest is recognized based on different categories of protection as a Cultural Landscape (1999, World Heritage Committee, UNESCO) or Viñales National Park (2001, National System of Protected Areas). This rural area coexists with a small-scale emerging model of tourist development, which aims to increase the standard of living of the local population and the preservation of its natural and cultural resources. The objective of this study was to assess the sustainability of tourism in Viñales applying a system of indicators to establish a series of recommendations to improve the said sustainability of tourism.
