Abstract:
With this article, we analyze the current context of accessibility to decent housing that article 47 of the Spanish Constitution recognizes as deriving from illegal occupation. With the economic crisis, many families without housing or resources to access it have chosen to stay in an unoccupied. Through a qualitative methodology consisting of the analysis of journalistic and academic articles and reports with real testimonies, the hidden face of this problem will be analyzed, the mafias behind the illegal occupation of homes and other agents that do business against the existence of these. They are derived from organized groups of people who seek to be benefit and profit at the expense of the vulnerability and desperation of disadvantaged groups who lack the means to access decent housing. We study how they act and their consequences in addition to providing statistical data to further illustrate this reality. The need to generate policies for the protection of private property and the promotion of housing that respond to this social need, which is expressed is evident.
