Abstract The history of the nursing profession in Tarragona is not known because there are few studies that deepen this theme locally. Although we can find traces of this history many centuries before, this paper compiles the events that begin right after the Peninsular War (1808 - 1814), with the arrival of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul Hospital of Tarragona, almost to the present, with the university recognition of the profession. The changes in the education profession have always been tied to the needs of a changing society that gradually has been demanding the formation of nurses much more prepared and qualified to meet the challenges of each era. For this reason, one of the main themes of this work is to reconstruct the history of the various nursing schools in Tarragona following the school of nursing at the hospital of the Red Cross, from its inception until its unification into one in order to join forces in the difficult challenge catapulted nursing studies at the university. This unification is the seed of the current faculty of nursing at the University Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona. Key Words: Nursing, School, Evolution, Red Cross, Tarragona.
