THE DESIRE FOR PARENTHOOD: The experience of using assisted reproduction techniques in Tarragona

Abstract:
The number of patients who use Assisted Reproduction Techniques (ART) has increased during the latest years, and this leads to a growth in the number of private reproduction clinics and reproduction units in public hospitals. The study and the treatment of infertility through ART it generally consists of a long process that involves complex interventions that can affect the health and lifestyle of the patients. They also can cause physical, mental, emotional and social wear to those who use them. The health team members of the Reproduction Units offer a continuity of care from before conception and initial evaluation, until the end of the cycle. This work will describe the process that patients feels when they get started in the world of ART, explain the most used and available techniques offered in Tarragona, as well as the different types of financing, to reflect upon the care, the support and the resources available nowadays for the people involved in the process in Tarragona.
