Abstract: Introducción. La fibromialgia se caracteriza por dolor musculoesquelético generalizado. Manifestado por dolor en las articulaciones y parestesias, junto con alteraciones del estado de ánimo. De los tratamientos existentes se encuentra la acupuntura, una terapia novedosa que aporta diversos beneficios. Objetivo. Evaluar la efectividad de la acupuntura utilizada en el tratamiento de Síndrome de Fibromialgia. Metodología. Revisión sistemática de la literatura científica. Discusión. El dolor es un desafío para los pacientes y la acupuntura lo ha disminuido en aquellos que se les aplicó y ha mejorado su calidad de vida. Ha demostrado ser beneficiosa en los síntomas de la fibromialgia, se puede considerar una alternativa de tratamiento, ya que los efectos adversos son mínimos. Fibromyalgia syndrome is characterized by generalized musculoskeletal pain. It manifests itself in the form of joint pain and paresthesia, along with mood disturbances. Pain intercedes in the quality of life of the people who suffer it. Its treatment covers all aspects of the person from a biopsychosocial point of view, pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Among other existing treatments is acupuncture, which is a novel therapy that provides various benefits. Objective. To evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture used in the treatment of Fibromyalgia Syndrome. Methodology. Systematic review of the scientific literature related to acupuncture and fibromyalgia available in selected articles from the PubMed, Scopus and Cinahl databases. A total of 8 articles have been extracted for review. Results. Some selected articles compared real acupuncture with sham, or with another intervention, and some only practiced acupuncture without a control group. The female sex predominated in the study population, and they studied the benefits of acupuncture in patients with fibromyalgia, applied by experienced professionals, and manual acupuncture was performed in all of them at points chosen by the acupuncturist. The duration of the interventions varied between 1,5,8,10 and 12 weeks. Discussion and conclusion. Pain continues to be a great challenge for patients and acupuncture has decreased pain in those who applied it and improved their quality of life. It has been shown to be beneficial in the symptoms of fibromyalgia, it can be considered a treatment alternative in which the benefits outweigh the risks, since the adverse effects are minimal.
