CARE FROM THE FRAGILITY: CASE STUDY Abstract In the last years, the informal care of dependent elderly, defined this one like “the care that neither is carried out by a health professional, isn’t even remunerated” 1 it has increased due to the aging and the increase of degenerative illnesses. The increase of the life expectancy, it endures an increase of the elders who need help in the basic activities of its daily life, elders with dependence. This fact, it relapses principally into the family, since only 2,5 % receives informal care out of family, and in majority the profile of the careful person belongs to a woman of middle-age.1 This article aims the importance of the role of the family caregiver, and informal care to dependent older people at home. It’s a case study that allows to interpret, with its limitations and potentialities, a social situation surrounded by the unit, which can lead to a situation of fragility, in this way with an emphasis on family support, in specific of its relationship with the dependent elderly and family caregivers. For this study, the techniques of data collection have been: participant observation and in-depth interview to the elderly and to the primary caregiver. The social conditions which are represented in the case study, can lead to negative repercussions of health, lack of social support and resources, so the nursing staff has a key role in the diagnosis of situations of risk "fragile", which can affect the Spanish population.
