Comparative analysis of different risk stratification models for smoldering multiple myeloma applied to patients at the Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona

    Abstract:
    Smoldering multiple myeloma is a clinical precursor to multiple myeloma. Experts have suggested treatment for those patients with a probability of progression >50%. We propose to evaluate and compare risk stratification models in patients at Joan XXIII University Hospital, and to analyse their progression. A cohort of 42 patients from 2017 to 2022 was used. Models including cytogenetics achieved a more homogeneous classification, with the IMWG model being the most sensitive, specific and accurate. Much more research is needed to unify the definition and clinical management of SMM patients.
