| Abstract: | Partner violence against women in Spain is now no longer regarded as an individual issue but a public problem. This article discusses the role of the media in this process. It analyses the news programmes broadcast by different television stations in Catalonia and shows that the news focuses on partner violence against women as a public problem. It argues that the frame of the news is not only a media issue; it is also connected to the social and political context. The feminist movement has played an essential role in the struggle against partner violence against women, but it is argued here that society¿s intense rejection of this sort of violence and the magnitude of the public policies that have been implemented in Spain could not be explained without the particular involvement of the media. |
