Abstract:The company IQOXE, due to the great growth in recent years with the demand for ethoxylates, has raised the possibility of designing a Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylate plant to meet this demand. Currently, there is a single reactor capable of producing 830 lots per year, each batch of 25 m3, and thanks to the study of alternatives, it has been possible to increase the production of ethoxylates by approximately 45%. It has carried out all the planning and preliminary design of the plant, establishing a production scheme, with a pre-reactor tank and two reactors in parallel. In the body of the report, all this information is attached in the form of diagrams (PFD, P&ID, Layout...) and the different stages of the process and the methods used in the design of each of the designed equipment are described. All the balances of the process and the equipment have been carried out with different calculation simulators such as Aspen Exchanger Design & Rating® v10. At the same time, the entire process is described along with the operating procedures, together with the times of each of these stages. Four plant equipment have been designed, which are the pre-reactor tank, the two reactors and the pre-reactor tank heating exchanger. In addition, these teams have been designed prioritizing the safety of the plant, which is why different methodologies have been used, such as HAZOP or ATEX. Finally, an economic study of the plant has been prepared to determine the viability of investing in the project. As a result of this study, the NPV of the project is determined, which is equivalent to 4,166,721 € with an IRR of 61.3% and a Payback period of 2.3 years.
