Abstract:
Objective:To identify nursing interventions to prevent post-intensive care syndrome in relatives.Methodology:A bibliographic revision has been carried out using six databases (Web of Science, Scopus, Pubmed, Dialnet, Cinahl, and Scielo). The initial “post-intensive AND care AND syndrome” search has been narrowed down with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Publishment year (2016-2020), language (Spanish and English), with access to the full text. The word “family” was included and there was a dismission considering the title, abstract, and full text. Results:From a total of 3194 articles found, a total of 12 articles were selected for this study, 4 articles from the Pubmed database, 1 from the web of Science, 1 from Dialnet, 5 from Scopus, 1 from Cinahl and 0 of Scielo.Discussion:The most prevalent signs and symptoms in the PICS-F are depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress. All of them are encompassed in mental affectations. A high percentage, when the relative is the spouse, also suffers social affectations as for familiar role loss, social isolation, or the economic and labor instability. The interventions carried out for the prevention of the PICS-F may be structured meetings, peer support meetings, the inclusion in the ABCDE bundle of the initials F, G, H referring to the family, inclusion in the treatment, and the decision-taking, and the implementation of the UCI diary. Conclusion:Despite the importance of supporting the family necessities in different moments after the patient’s discharge, few studies have examined how necessities and perceptions change in the caretakers after the discharge. Therefore, future investigations in a wider area are justified, expanded basal characteristics and detection methods to evaluate the scope of the existence of the PICS-F and the impact that interventions can have after the discharge.
