Abstract:In the days we are living in, safety in industrial processes has become a major goal that takes precedence over any other parameter. At Repsol Química, specifically in the 1,3-butadiene process plants, we find a problem to which, to date, no solution has been found. 1,3-butadiene in the presence of oxygen causes the formation of its polymer, which due to its exponential growth, can bend metals and even break the mechanical integrity of equipment and process lines causing lack of restraint. The main objective of the quest is to developed a method of control and mitigation for de polymerisation of 1,3-butadiene, popcorn, during the process of obtaining the butadiene. The results of this work are that the main factors to intervene in the order to avoid polymerisation are based on a good design of the plant, an operation and elements fort optimal maintenance and inhibitors of the polymerisation are a good solution that avoids this formation.
