Abstract:Excessive emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere is one of the biggest concern that society has to face. In order to obtain a benefit from this fact, the need to synthesize stable and selective catalyst from abundant and low-cost materials for the conversion of CO2 into fuel, such as methane or methanol, has grown. In this regard, carbon-core nanomaterials, called carbon quantum dots (CDs), are arising as new materials with outstanding properties. In this work, different carbon quantum dots (CDs) have been synthetized by the solvothermal method, have been doped with different nitrogen sources and have been doped with Fe, Cu and Co. Finally, X-Ray diffraction, UV-Vis absorbance and photoluminescence spectroscopic techniques have been used in order to characterize these material, which have been tested to be ineffective for the efficient electrochemical reduction of CO2 in solution (homogeneous conditions).
