Abstract:This final degree project collects the analysis destined to the characterization of polytetrafluoroethylene compounds (PTFE) using the DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) technique, based on ISO 11357 (Plastics – Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)). In this analysis, the information of fusion and crystallization temperatures and enthalpies are obtained, in order to characterize the compounds of PTFE. This study, analyses the variability of these properties of a PTFE compound that provides from three different supplier of the PMG, Constantí. DSC test are performed from the three different suppliers. The results are collected and analyzed. In all, are performed nine test; six of granular PTFE (free flow), and three off sintered PTFE. With the purpose of studying the variability between the three suppliers, ANOVA statistical analysis are made for granular PTFE samples, and a comparison is made for sintered PTFE. As a conclusion, a study is carried out to compare the sintering process done in PMG, Constantí, and the sintering process done in the DSC. The results show that there are differences between the results obtained from the granular PTFE of the three different suppliers for the melting points values. However, there are not differences between the crystallinity degree and enthalpies. In the results obtained from the sintered PTFE, there are not differences of the three suppliers.
