Abstract:The project being carried out consists of the mechanical design of a pressure vessel, specifically a reactor, aimed at servicing the production of a chemical plant located in Camp de Tarragona. In this case, engineering services have been requested from the company FLUOR Plant Engineering, S.A. (from now on, FLUOR) to solve the low production level of the plant with the incorporation of the new equipment. Thus, with the realization of this project, the aim is to increase the level of production according to the new needs posed by the client. These conditions imposed by the promoter make it possible to define the scope of the project and determine the technical characteristics that the new reactor to be designed will present. In this project, the design and calculation of the various mechanical parts that make up the reactor are carried out according to the American standard ASME Section VIII Division 1, which regulates and guides the design and construction of pressure vessels. As main mechanical parts of the reactor we can highlight the following: • Shell • Top and Bottom Heads • Nozzles The project contemplates the mechanical part, that is, the design of the physical assembly of the equipment with the realization of the respective fabrication drawings that allow the manufacture, assembly and placement of the reactor in its final location in the plant by lifting operations. In addition, the calculations by internal pressure of the different elements and the evaluation of the costs are also included in the scope. Although the execution of the project includes electrical and instrumentation scope, to monitor the operation of the equipment, these will be carried out by the respective FLUOR departments. Therefore, they are not the object of study in this project.
