Abstract:
Toxoplasmosis is a disease that affects approximately 1/3 of the population worldwide and its major organ of infection is the brain. The majority of in vitro studies use human foreskin fibroblasts (HFF), but in this study SH-SY5Y cells are proposed as a neuronal model for this infection. In this work it has been seen that T. gondii in SH-SY5Y cells had a fastest life cycle than in HFF and the expansion of the infection and the infection rates were similar in both cultures. Also, the production of cytokines by SH-SY5Y cells seemed that decreased with time with T. gondii infection.
