Abstract:Shadow economy is a problem that involves a major concern in most countries, for its existence, quantification and way to detect; the effects derived are very negative for the economy, both from a macroeconomic and microeconomic view. The intention is to analyze and reflect the problems involved in undeclared work for the country's economy. It is intended to determine the concept of the underground economy, as its volume is calculated, what their origins are and why companies and workers in accordance situations choose not to declare economic activities carried out; the consequences it entails, both for those who practice it as for the whole country are also analyzed. In addition, behavior and evolution that has continued in recent years is also studied. On the other hand, the relationship between the volume of shadow economy in different countries and three variables is also analyzed. These are the tax revenue, the labor market and corruption. A priori these three variables appear to be related to the underground economy; so we try to see whether this relationship really exists. Finally, we analyze how government intervention influences. The relation between Institutional quality and volume of underground economy is studied, as well as, social protection expenditure. This final project includes possible public policy measures to eradicate and combat undeclared work and policy applied in some countries of the European Union
