Abstract:Children are a vulnerable sector of society that need protection from abandonment. When a child is in an unprotected situation, it requires the intervention of public authorities in order to remedy the state of neglect. The aim of this paper is to analyze the institution of abandonment according to the legislation that is currently applied in Catalonia, that is, the Law 14/2010, of May 27th, regarding childhood and adolescence rights and opportunities, as well as the Law 25/2010, of July 29th, regarding the second book of the Civil code of Catalonia, related to person and family. The procedure of declaration children in a state of neglect is a administrative procedure that involves la Direcció General d’Atenció a la Infància i l’Adolescència. This entity is responsible for adopting a measure of protection for the child, and it will do according to the best interests of him.
