Abstract:Pineda’s core area, with 42.3%, represents the highest percentage of foreign population registered in central area of Camp de Tarragona. Furthermore, 80% of this population comes from developing countries. These statistics underline how Pineda’s core area during the winter it is characterised by low-income housing groups. From this observation, the objective of my final Master's Thesis is to study the phenomenon of residential segregation of the foreign population in the tourist resort of La Pineda. It also aims to analyse and measure the impact of these characteristics on housing stock within the segregation. From this case study, it is intended to fill a gap on dissemination studies and segregation of the foreign population in tourist areas. This chosen segregation study raised will utilise various statistical sources, such as the Municipal Register of Inhabitants of the City of Vila-seca, with reference date from January 1, 2015; emptying the land and real estate portals. From these data calculations have been made regarding indication of segregation and core location percentages. In order to weigh the different factors explaining the distribution of the population and its relation to the built environment, supplemented data with qualitative information obtained from fieldwork and interviews with real estate agents has been collected. The results allow us to ensure that, despite the high concentration of foreign population in Pineda’s core area, the level of residential segregation of the population of foreign nationality moderate as a whole. Among the factors explaining these results it is noted that although the foreign population tends to concentrate in the housing of smaller size and quality, it is dispersed throughout the urban area without a clear secluded concentration. Keywords : residential segregation , foreign population , main house , the resort town Pineda.
