Abstract:
In the conditions of fast globalization, many countries in the world are searching for the new competitive advantages. According to many researchers the ability to generate new – the creativity – can become this new competitive advantage. Creativity underlies creative industries - the production of goods and services based on the author's creativity and talent. Currently, creative industries is beyond the fastest developing sectors in the world economy. The main factors of the location of creative industries are talented workforce, the demand for creative goods and services and the favourable environment that affects the creative process. One of the most important centre if creative industries is European Union. The European countries possess the highly qualified workforce, creative environment, provided by the cultural heritage and diversity, and a needed level of the wealth to provide the demand for creative goods and services Spain is among the European creative leaders. Its cultural sector is world-known. Catalonia is the second creative centre in the country with the leading role of Barcelona. The main object of this paper is to study the main features of creative sector and to observe the spatial structure of creative industries in European Union, in Spain and Catalonia. For this purpose the multiple methods were used including quantitative analysis of statistical data, while the qualitative approach included the interviewing some important creative agents of Catalonia. The geographical study of creative industries principles and spatial structure is relatively new trend in scientific research. Therefore, many questions are still left without answers, and many factors are underestimated. One of these factors is the institutional factor. In this paper the shot at the study of the importance of the institutional factor for creative industries has been taken.
