Resum:The translation of works in literature is fundamental as it plays one of the essential roles in multiculturalism nowadays. Linguistics and literature are complementary: linguistics studies literary texts, while literature uses linguistics and stylistics, and phraseology, considered equal, one of the rhetoric forms, to anchor the reader in his imaginary and original universe. Sharing equally linguistics and culture is always enriching. Our purpose is to study the complexity of the translation process from one language to another, from Portuguese to French, in particular through colloquial, idiomatic, and proverbial expressions in context to understand and discover morphology, syntax, lexis, and semantics organization of these Romance languages. To this end, some excerpts from the Portuguese novel Seeing by Saramago, translated into French, serve as the main corpus of study.
