Abstract:
The present paper tries to give a little view of the validity of some words of Tortosa, compiled a century ago by Francesc Mestre i Noé and published for the first time in 1915 inside the Butlletí de dialectologia catalana of Institut d'Estudis Catalans (Institute for Catalan Studies). The aim of this compilation was to compose files that would contain each word for afterwards be sent to Mossèn Antoni Maria Alcover with the objective of include them in his dictionary. Later was published with the title of Vocabulari Català de Tortosa (Catalan Vocabulary of Tortosa) (1916). To carry out this study we have done a field work that consisted in asking to some residents in Tortosa about this vocabulary, of which seventy words have been taken as a sample.
