Abstract:The overproduction and uncontrolled use of antibiotics has produced one of the most current clinical dilemmas by increasing wastewater contamination in lower-middle income countries such as India. This presents bacteria capable of interacting with other microorganisms to increase antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which can impact on the pathogenicity of diseases as Acanthamoeba keratitis. Therefore, it was proposed to determine whether AMR in bacteria is influenced by the amoeba-bacteria endosymbiotic relationship. For this, high concentration of antibiotics present in contaminated waters of India were tested using the Antibiotic susceptibility and the Minimal inhibitory concentration test. High resistance results were observed for Sulfamethazine and the endosymbiotic effect between bacterial species and Acanthamoeba was confirmed causing an evolutionary effect on them that has repercussions on the increase of AMR.
