    Abstract:
Nowadays a large part of scientific and political work related to environmental issues is inexticably linked to climate change. Scientific papers, debates and international conferences are centred around the actual clima- te change, the impacts it can have on natural orders, economic and social systems and the most appropriate mitigation and adaptation strategies required on both a global and regional scale. The Copenhaguen climate conference has once again highlighted the need to adopt measures to confront the main environmental problem affecting the whole planet this century. The consequences of climate change not only affect the natural environment but also have significant social, economic and cultural repercussions. The strategies used to deal with climate change will largely define the energy and economic development models which will be employed over the next few decades.
