Abstract: In Capital vol. I, Marx presented the concepts and theories of commodity and accumulation. These two concepts and theories have been clearly valid and adequate to understand the working and evolution of capitalism through its hree main periods of western capitalism: initial or factory-based, industrial fordist, and the recent neoliberal. This article presents a revision and discussion of two evolutions: a) the evolution of the phenomena of commodity and fetish commodification, and of capitalist accumulation; b) the evolution of how these two capitalist phenomena have been interpreted and conceptualized by Western mainstream critical social science. It is concluded with a reflection about the possible socio-political solutions to the negative problems and damaging effects of current capitalism.
