    Abstract:
The novel En la ciudad de los muertos (2011) is a rare exercise in current vampire narrative fiction, which seems to favour the humanized or naturalized postmodern vampire. In contrast, Latorre recuperates in this work the archetypal undead of Gothic-Romantic literature. This study presents an approach to the narratological strategies used in the novel to imbue with horror a creature whose adaptive intelligence has transmuted it into something often alien to the monstrous. For this, we will trace the main hypotexts underlying the novel. We will also question the vampire's alleged loss of status as a being capable of engendering a horrifying effect and embodying contemporary fears, vices or concerns. Finally, we will study the subtle updates incorporated into the chronotopic values of the Gothic novel Latorre emulates.
