Assessment of blends of SBS copolymer with polyethylene for film application

  • Identification data

    Identifier:  PFC:124
    Authors:  Ventura Fàbregas, Joan
    Abstract:
This project is based on study polyethylene blends with Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS). The idea is search in the literature past experiences and new potential opportunities in order to develop new blends and study their properties so as to create new products. More concretely, one of the most important goals is find a well-balanced film between mechanical and optical properties. The process to manufacture the samples is an extrusion line and, in this case, presents some limitations due to refrigeration and this will constitutes the design part. The objective is to improve the refrigeration of the polymeric mass with the aim of increment even more the output and approach the condition to the industrial conditions. Some alternatives are proposed and compared between them so as to choose the best option. Moreover, the project also includes the design of the IBC system in order to refrigerate internally. Finally, the alternatives are evaluated economically in order to cut costs and implement the best one.
