    Abstract:
Inflamation and oxidative stress play a very important role in atherosclerosis. Atherosclerotic plaque formation and progression is characterized by disfunction of endothelial cells, the accumulation of aggregated lipoproteins in the intima, and monocyte migration across the endothelium and their differentiation into macrophages. The peroxidation of lipids is associated with the progression of the disease of the fatty streak to the advanced atherosclerotic plaque. We explore for the first time, if the inverse relationship between the defense mechanisms against oxidative stress and subsequent endothelial inflammatory response can be detected in blood. We found that that results of MCP-1 and serum PON1 and PON3 confirm our hypothesis and may provide a new indicator of the disease that can act as biomakers.
