Abstract:
Between the years 1919 y 1936 appear in Spain the first translations of the German poet Friedrich Hölderlin. In Castilian (Spanish) most of the times, but also in Catalan and in Galician, the whole of texts and paratexts -basically, press articles and the essay La lucha contra el demonio (The Fight against the Daemon) by Stefan Zweig- builds up the material that testify a first presence of the poet in Spanish Literatures, his introduction, and settles the guidelines of future readings and interpretations, during Francos dictatorship, rich in punctual translations, but also during the second and definitive reception of the poet in the seventies of last century. Although they are not the unique texts - translated poems by Fernando Maristany and Manuel de Montoliu are nowadays absolutely forgotten-, the versions by Carles Riba, Luis Cernudas translated anthology and the just three translated poems by the Galician Álvaro Cunqueiro are going to be the starting point for any subsequent reading or translation. They are the axis of this first reception and the reflect the main characteristic: Hölderlin enters the Spanish Literature through the voice of great authors and he influences them as a modern poet. Neither Riba, nor Cernuda would be who they are, if they had not translated the poet of poets (Heidegger).The analysis of such a material -translations and paratexts presented in the second volume or first annex of this Thesis- forced the establishment of a methodology that could pretend to embrace the variable, holistic and plural phenomenon called reception.
