    Abstract:
Objectives: To evaluate whether the polymorphisms of the chemokine and their cellular receptors modulate the natural history of HIV infection in a Spanish Caucasian population.Patients and methods: Cross-sectional case-control study. Subjects: 102 healthy subjects, 36 non-infected at risk, 104 HIV+ typical progressors and 77 HIV+ long-term non progressors. Analysis of the CX3CR1 V249I and T280M variants, CX3CL1 -2099 and -3042 variants, CCR2 V64I polymorphism and CCL2 -2518 variant. Results: The allelic variant CX3CR1 V249I and the haplotype 249I280T are significantly overrepresented among slow-progressors. The allelic variants CX3CL1 -2999 and -3042 are overrepresented in HIV+ patients, as well as the genotype CCL2 -2518GG compared to non-infected at risk. Conclusions: The allelic CX3CR1 V249I variant might represent a protective factor in disease progression. 249I280T haplotype is associated to the long-term non progressor status. The linkage disequilibrium between 249I and 280M is confirmed. Allelic variants CX3CL1 -2999 and -3042 are significantly more frequent in HIV+ patients than in healthy subjects. The status of CCL2 -2518G/G homozygous carrier is associated with an increase of the HIV infection risk.
