    Abstract:
The knowledge of transport mechanisms in solar cells is useful to determine electrical losses. In my doctoral thesis we studied the transport mechanisms in solar cells involving organic semiconductors. We show that models which have been used to study amorphous inorganic solar cells can be applied on organic ones. We conclude that: multitunelling capture emission and tunelling-enhanced interface recombination mechanisms contribute to the dark current characteristics in P3HT/Si, Pc/C60 and P3HT:PCBM solar cells. Specifically, for P3HT/Si devices, we suggested a methodology to obtain some P3HT parameters. This methodology can be used for studying other organic materials. For Pc/C60 solar cells, in addition to determine the conduction mechanisms, we simulated consistently energy band diagrams and studied the origin of photocurrent losses for different C60 thickness. Finally, for P3HT:PCBM devices, the distribution of the density of states was calculated using capacitance vs. frequency measurements. It was useful to study the role of the hole transport layer on the stability of the solar cell.
