The diabetic foot is a chronic complication of Diabetes Mellitus and constitutes a sanitary problem which causes not only enormous expenses for the sanitary system but also provokes emotional repercussions for the person who suffers t the illness and for the family. It is estimated that 15% to 25% of diabetic patients are affected in the course of their life for an ulcer in the skin that eventually can originate an amputation of the patient’s foot. Objectives: The objective is to identify the perception of the risk and knowledge that have the DM 2 on the diabetic foot. Material and method: For the realization of this work has used a literature review on the basis of data such as Pubmed, Care and others, where you will select 20 scientific articles that talk about perception and degree of knowledge of the patients. Results: Different authors have agreed that there is a deficiency in the degree of knowledge as well as lack of perception about the risks, this leads to serious problems in these people as they have a poor quality of life. Conclusions: It may be concluded that the degree of knowledge and the perception of the persons are two very important factors to prevent the diabetic foot. Not to have these factors and the adequate care of the potential may trigger the likelihood of an amputation of the lower limbs. Pertinent proper health education means educating the patient and skills to meet the demands of disease.
