    Abstract:
This study deals about the females characters of some works from Tomás de Iriarte and Leandro Fernández de Moratín, the most representative dramatists of the eighteenth Spanish century. For the elaboration of the study, I have chosen El señorito mimado and La señorita malcriada from Tomás de Iriarte because in them appear certain issues about the education of the eighteenth century, and La comedia nueva and El sí de las niñas from Moratín because the first proposes the theatre reform and the second presents the problem of unequal marriages. For all what is said over the study, we can conclude that Iriarte and Moratín are renovators dramatists because they configure characters, situations and contemporary problems with an edifying objective. Iriarte writes El señorito mimado and La señorita malcriada for give a moral lesson to Young rebels of the time: let them see that the temperament was harmful and that they should aspire to be men and women of good. Moratín, with La comedia nueva, exposes the Enlightenment ideal woman, that it was represented by the domestic woman, whose most appropriate place was in the time her home; and with El sí de las niñas, by the figure of Diego, he shows that the problem of unequal marriages could be solved through reason, since the old man, although he wants to marry with Francisca, at the end he forget his selfishness and he accepts the union of the young with Carlos. In conclusion, the shows enlightened policy, although it did not transform the theatre scene, it has good effects: the style was purified, the prose was used, the ideas were more enlightened. But literary creation, despite the success of the El sí de las niñas, did not manage to connect with the public, that continued attend at comedy theatres to see performances of baroque tradition: the teachings went unnoticed by the abundance of lachrymose and fantastic works, and the Moratín’s reform plan ended in resounding failure
