Implementation of the CCD model and the NIDCAP program in Joan XXIII University Hospital of Tarragona: Staff perception

    Abstract:
    Prematurity has been present in our society for a long time and, despite the improvement, it is still present. The application of models and programs such as CCD and NIDCAP show improvement; but at the same time are a challenge for the staff for the newborn units. The Aim of this study is to evaluate the perception of both staff and NIDCAP coach about the application of ICS project and the influence of this in both kids and their parents. This is a qualitative research through participant observation of the newborn unit, focus groups of the staff, and a deep interview to NIDCAP coach. The results show which is the staff perception about the changes made in the unit and recommendations they made. The final are conclusions are: Open door to parents have improved the quality of cares and the posterior recovery of the baby; An increase in the amount of staff would raise the quality of the cares; These projects have date of start but have not date of finish, though they pretend to keep going on and improving; Finally, the new units that will open will consider these projects and models so the structure will be more favorable for them.
