The school nurse: importance of her preventive and health promotion functions during adolescence.

Abstract:
Currently the lack of healthy habits is the cause of many of the Health problems that today’s society suffers from and many of these behaviors are acquired in adolescence. For this reason we have set out to define the functions of School Nursing as well as identify the current situation of this figure in Catalonia and know the point of view of teachers on it. In order to achieve these objectives, we have carried out a bibliographic research that we have complemented with a qualitative methodology based on six interviews with different teachers. The results obtained from these two methodologies suggest that there is a clear ignorance on the part of teachers in relation to the School Nurse and her duties, as well as with the meaning of Health promotion, disease prevention and Health education, which makes it difficult its implementation in classrooms. In conclusion, there is a need to make a great dissemination to the entire teaching community of the figure of the school nurse and her functions: health promotion, health education and disease prevention, as a way to avoid problems. which may appear during this school stage and promote better health.
