Abstract:
INTRODUCTION: Mental health has coexisted with social stigmas for many years. This fact has also affected its therapies like, in this case, the Electroconvulsive Therapy. Other treatments, such as pharmacotherapy, are chosen because the results have been studied deeply. As expected, nursing cares are playing key roles in this treatment, hence the purpose of my work, discovering if nursing cares are beneficial for patients with mental disorders in Electronvulsive Therapies. METHODOLOGY: An article search is done through databases like PubMed, Cinahl, Scopus, Web of Science and CUIDEN, using specific search items obtained from DeCS descriptors (Health ScienceDescriptors) and MeSH (Medical Subject Headings). These articles will be submitted to quality standards according to Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) manual.RESULTS:Of the 113 articles found during the search, only 18 of them accomplished all the standards. After the exhaustive reading of all its content, a total of 11 articles were selected, analysed and related to the theory.CONCLUSIONS: Despite the progress and the improvements done on Electroconvulsive Therapy, including both patients and professionals, there are still so many fields to keep investigating. As future health professionals, we have to foster and support the formation on the treatments that affect patients with mental disorders, as experiences in this process affect the results directly.
