Revitalization of the Port of Bercy.Recovery of the link between the Seine River and the Bercy district through the extension of its park.

Abstract:
The aim of the project is to take advantage again and strengthen the potential of the River, assumed to be the origin of Paris. The river Seine was characterized by an intense economical and festive activity until it was entirely occupied by the motor vehicle, reason why it lost all bonds it had had once with the city. After being declared World Heritage in 1991 and despite good deals of projects being proposed in order to recover the old link with the city –by getting back the priority to the pedestrian- most of them have put all the focus on the cultural and heritage spots, thus ignoring those quays located far away from the city centre. To the south west of Paris, two big boundaries break the connection that the Bercy quarter could possibly have with the River. The major responsible of this is the Bercy Park – initially thought as a large lung for the city: an endless road along the riverside forces the park to turn away from its noise -and therefore to the Seine- through the construction of an extended eight meter elongated volume. The project seeks to understand the Seine as a whole in order to create a continuous waterway. Therefore, the main proposal of the urban project consists in linking each one of the quays so as to decentralise all of those activities and events related to it as well as to extending the great net of green spaces and gardens to absorb its liveliness and promote the extended biodiversity they offer. Focusing finally in the place of the neighbourhood of Bercy, the scheme of the plan will basically consist in remodelling the structure of the roof of the Bercy-Seine bus station and the construction of a green walkway in order to generate the stated connection towards the river. The new building underneath them attempts to offer a nicer front to the Park and to generate a series of spaces that will strengthen the already existing the cultural exchange.
