The non-existing right to abort in Andorra - A social problem-

Abstract:
This article aims to address and help visualize an ongoing problem in the Principality of Andorra. Abortion is a controversial topic amongst the countries’ residents, generating confrontational debates between the citizens and the neighboring countries, sparkling a worldwide debate. At present, Andorran legislation forbids all women from abortion, extending the ban to unforeseeable circumstances such as: rape, fetus malformation, endangerment of the lives of mother or child… Reason being that this performance is established as a punishable practice (under the penal section) as stated in the countries’ Constitution of 1993. Voluntary abortion is usually regarded from a biomedical standpoint; this leaves aside the psychological consequences that getting or not the procedure could cause on the mother. Therefore, the Field of Social Work will conduct a study approach that will include sexual and reproductive rights, allowing a detailed analysis of the social question intrinsical to this issue, since the problematization of abortion in Andorran politics needs to be discussed in it’s entirety. Likewise, through the following article, the contributions that will allow an improvement to the situation will be emphasized, as will other issues that also need support, all through research and social intervention by de Field of Social Work.
