Mechanistic study proposal of the trimethylsilylation of terminal alkynes using TMSCF3 and DMPU

    Abstract:
    Terminal alkynes are known to undergo trimethylsilylation in the presence of TMSCF3 with DMPU as solvent. No mechanistic studies whatsoever have been focused in this transformation so far. Reaction monitoring techniques allow experiments aimed at shedding light on the mechanistic pathway of this reaction. From a Hammett plot to the measurement of kinetic isotope effects, several techniques are described and their application to this particular case explained. A proposal of a set of experiments, with examples where they have been previously used and with explanation of which information they can provide, can be found in this text.
