Abstract: PAPAC38 i PACAP27 són pèptids endògens que han estat estudiats per les seves propietats contra malalties neurodegeneratives. Recentment, s'ha estudiat si una versió més fàcil de fer també podria presentar aquestes propietats, i els resultats van mostrar que PACAP23 era el compost bioactiu més curt. Malgrat els seus efectes positius, els pèptids presenten una sèrie d'inconvenients i una dificultat per creuar el BBB. La glicosilació ha demostrat ser eficaç per ajudar amb aquests problemes. Per això, l'èxit en la síntesi d'un PACAP23 glicosilat podria obrir un ampli ventall de possibilitats per al disseny d'un fàrmac destinat al tractament d'aquestes malalties. PAPAC38 and PACAP27 are endogenous peptides which have been studied for their properties against neurodegenerative diseases. Recently, it was studied if an easier to make version could also present these properties, and the results showed that PACAP23 was the shortest bioactive compound. Despite its positive effects, peptides present a series of drawbacks and a difficulty in crossing the BBB. Glycosylation has proved effective to help with these problems. Because of that, the success in the synthesis of a glycosylated PACAP23 could open a wide range of possibilities for the design of a drug meant for the treatment of these diseases.
