Abstract:
Introduction: the reduction of the donors in terms of brain death creates the necessity of finding new ways of donors. The asystole donation (AD) would be a good alternative. The nursing staffs become an essential element to carry out this type of donation process. Our main objective as nurses was to focus on the AD programs knowledge to examine the ill patient and find the problem in order to generate a better evidence of the illness. Method: review of the medical literature from Cuiden, LILACS, IME, CINAHL, Current Contents, Cochrane Library and Pubmed between 1986 and 2014 period. Specifically, all of the Spanish and English articles related to the nurses’ action in terms of the asystole donation were included. All these articles related to paediatric setting and encephalic death donation were not included. Results: 45 articles were selected. The concept if death and life support implies different ethic and moral conflicts. Modified Maastricht Classification (2011) sets up different types of organs donors. AD’s excellence radiates in the organ quality, correct haemodynamic maintenance (optimal ischemia timing) and the medical staff’s attitude and behaviour. Conclusions: nursery department should make an effort to know and understand the role of nurses, trying to design protocols, which improve our practice. This way, it is possible to get an excellence in matters of organ donation and to decrease little nursing evidence. Keywords: asystole, non-heart-beating donors, cadaver donor, nursing, cardiocirculatory death
