Macrolide resistance mutations in Mycoplasma genitalium in the region of Tarragona in 2021: prevalence and associated features.

    Abstract:
The Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) is a micro-organism that causes uncommon STI, but it is the main cause of nongonococcal urethritis in men. Its prevalence and the rate of macrolide resistance-mediating mutations (MRMMs) are each time higher, and administered therapies are declining in effectiveness worldwide. To determinate the prevalence of the azithromycin resistance in a positive MG population in Tarragona area, a cross-sectional study was carried out with 66 patients, who underwent MRMMs detection test by PCR. The study reported 14,49% mutation cases. The MRMMs detection would improve the orientation to an optimal therapy and reduce the probability of producing resistances.
