Light verbs: A contrastive approach between English, Spanish and French in translation.

Abstract:
Light verbs are defined as verbs completely devoid of meaning of their own. Hence the term itself defines them as "light". Unlike full verbs, they must be complemented with an eventive noun, forming a complex predicate and therefore have meaning. This grammatical structure is known as light verb constructions. The thesis aims to make a comparative study of these constructions between English, Spanish and French. To achieve this, the investigation was carried out in the literary field and in translation. The hypothesis was that light verbs are rarely known and studied, therefore their use is often unknown. For the research, an analysis of these verbs in a literary work was used, taking into account only the light verb "take". The data have been collected across the three versions of the same text. The results show that this type of constructions are not very used at literary level, being in the Germanic language where they are more abundant.
