Obesity and bariatric surgery modify plasma bioactive lipid species

    Identifier:  TFG:4461
    Authors:  Martínez López, Marta
    Abstract:
The aim of this study was to quantify plasma oxylipin profile in obese patients to determine if there are modifications due to obesity, obesity-related comorbidities and BS, and if BS can restore normal oxylipin concentrations. To achieve it, plasma samples from non-obese, obese pre-BS and obese post-BS patients were analyzed to obtain biochemical parameters and subjected to LC-MS/MS assay to quantify its oxylipin profile. The conclusions extracted from this study were that obesity and bariatric surgery modify plasma oxylipin profile, whereas obesity-related comorbidities and very low-calorie diet do not modify it. Oxylipin profile modifications persist after weight loss.
