Abstract:
Introduction: Psoriasis is a skin disease with negative physical, psychological and social repercussions for those affected, having a strong impact on the perceived quality of life. Objectives: Know how psoriasis affects the perceived quality of life in people who suffer it. Methods: A literature search was conducted in October 2014 on biomedical databases: Pubmed, Scopus, CINAHL, Science Direct and Dialnet. The keywords used for the search were "psoriasis" and "quality of life". The Boolean operator used is "AND". After evaluating the articles with the SQUIRE guide, 51 items were selected. Results: After reading the articles this were tabulated and each of them associated with the dimension of the patient's life that was affected: Physical Impact: itching; Psychological impact: depression, anxiety, suicidal ideas and gender; Stigma; Sexuality; Personal development: study and work. Conclusions: The psoriasis affects physical, mental and social health of the individual, significantly affecting the perceived quality of life of those who suffer it. These have a higher risk of depression, anxiety and suicidal tendencies compared to the general population. Also it can adversely affect the sexual life, especially when genitals are affected. It is related to feelings of low self-esteem, decreased confidence, impaired body image and stigmatization. The female gender it is the most vulnerability, having more risk for depression, itching, stigma and disruption of sexual and professional life.
