Nanochannel-based biosensing platforms to deal with infection outbreaks

    Abstract:
This work focuses on urinary tract infections (UTIs) developed by the bacterium Escherichia coli (E. coli). Nowadays the diagnosis of UTIs relies on culture-based methods, which often take two to three days to offer conclusive results. Therefore, the project aims to generate a highly sensitive, selective, label-free and versatile electrochemical detection platform based on a pore-blockage sensing mechanism, for the early diagnosis of infectious foci. For this purpose, porous silicon has been used as an electrochemical biosensor.
