Abstract: My research is a case study that deals with a comparative lexical analysis of the Catalan translations of Ulysses (Joyce, 1922) written by Joan Francesc Vidal i Jové (1966); Joaquim Mallafrè i Gavaldà (1981) and Carles Llorach- Freixes (2018). My analysis is based on the first chapter of the novel. The focus of my analysis lies on compound nouns, proper nouns, blasphemies and swear words. I test the Retranslation Hypothesis (RH). My methodology involves selecting terms and expressions that show interesting differences; drawing patterns within the data that I have collected and classifying the data into tables. Relating the results, they are presented both quantitatively and qualitatively. I conclude that the RH does hold in my analysis.
