Cultural Materialism on The Simpsons: Theory and Praxis of Cultural Analysis

Abstract:
In the times when the term “political correctness” is on point, multimedia services must take that term into consideration. In that way, television series such as The Simpsons make a critique of how American society and its culture can sometimes be not so respectful with minorities or women. Therefore, the main objective of study of this dissertation is to make a cultural analysis based on topics related to cultural materialism, which are class struggle, ecocriticism, postcolonialism, and materialist feminism of some episodes of The Simpsons. For this purpose, an extensive search for information is carried out on websites specialized in each topic in order to make a proper analysis of each episode.
