Non-Translated Role-Playing Games and Their Usefulness in Second Language Vocabulary Acquisition

  • Identification data

    Identifier:  TFG:6191
    Authors:  Ramírez Pallí, Xavier
    Abstract:
This project is about the acquisition of vocabulary for an L2 with the visual resources of an RPG videogame. It relies on the Involvement Load Hypothesis, which concentrates on the need, the search and the later use or application of vocabulary from a learner in an L2, and the Learning Burden, which focuses on the idea that the closer the L1 and L2 are in relation to their similarities, the easier will be for the learner to acquire new vocabulary. The finding indicates that cutscenes in non-translated role-playing game offer great opportunities for L2 vocabulary acquisition.
