    Abstract:
Genome-wide Association Studies (GWAS) have advanced our understanding of complex diseases, such as Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). This study explored the potential of specific Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) to predict NAFLD development in severely obese patients (types II and III). By genotyping 25 SNPs from plasma samples of 1719 individuals, we identified four significant SNPs (rs58542926, rs1800629, rs8107974, and rs5982) associated with NAFLD progression in this subgroup. However, these SNPs exhibited weak predictive power. While our findings deepen the genetic understanding of NAFLD, further research is needed to develop more effective diagnostic and treatment strategies.
