    Abstract:
The main objective of this project is to analyze how the different characteristics of men and women affect their leadership style. We want to study if there are leadership styles more common in women than in men and vice versa. Although many advances have been made in recent years to achieve equality between men and women, it is clear that in many areas it has not yet been achieved. One of these is the business sector. First, gender differences in the Spanish market will be studied, taking into account horizontal and vertical gender segregation. Next, the work focuses on the vertical and analyzes the possible causes that can explain a much lower percentage of women in high positions, with the aim of analyzing if there are differences in the way companies are led, first of all , the different leadership styles are studied from a theoretical perspective and then an empirical study is carried out to check if women really tend to lead companies in a different way to men. Women in leadership positions tend to incorporate a more collaborative and relationship-oriented perspective. In contrast, male leadership tends to be more directive and hierarchical. The dynamics of authority and motivation that we have analyzed reveal a scenario that, despite efforts and growing awareness, continues to penalize women in leadership roles.
